Rodney Fox, aka DJ AHYU, has been DJing for EmbodyDance in Santa Fe for eight years, bringing his unique blend of creativity, passion, and a lifelong dream to the dance floor. For Rodney, becoming a DJ was a childhood ambition that he finally embraced at age 50, asking himself, “Am I going to do this thing, or what?” With that decision, he dove headfirst into the craft, purchased his first DJ deck, and poured countless hours into mastering the art of creating powerful, transformative waves. His debut as a guest DJ for Seattle Ecstatic Dance was a hit, sparking a journey that continues to evolve.

Rodney’s style is as diverse as it is dynamic, drawing from tribal beats, drum & bass, worldbeat, tango, jazz, and more. With each set, he skillfully weaves together music from a wide array of genres and global influences, all while staying true to his belief that music without too many lyrics helps dancers stay grounded in their bodies. Whether exploring themes inspired by plant medicine journeys or crafting waves that move through the 5Rhythms® sequence, Rodney’s sets are known for their creativity, energy, and ability to captivate the room.

One of Rodney’s most memorable contributions was during a 2022 fundraiser for a local dog sanctuary, where over 60 dancers gathered to support the cause. For him, these moments highlight the power of ecstatic dance to foster community and create positive change.

Rodney is fueled by an eclectic musical palette that spans everything from Parov Stelar’s electro-swing to the soulful sounds of Edith Piaf. His passion for dance and music shines in every wave, leaving dancers feeling exhilarated, connected, and transformed. As he says, “When folks go home at the end of a night dancing to my creations, I love hearing how it felt like they took a drug and are still coming down from the experience.”
