News From Embodydance Santa Fe

Greetings Embodydance Community Members,

I am happy to present the result of our Structural Committee's work to you all. Born out of the Envisioning Event this last summer, these committed folks have been pow-wowing how to better structure our organization to be in alignment with the way we dance…empowered from the inside out. We are community owned and operated, and are pioneering a new co-operative paradigm in the way business is run.
Below is their description of the Executive Committee being formed and information about how to apply for potential candidates. I hope you consider this invitation to participate at the vital core of our community. Only 7 people will be chosen (by us all) from those who apply. This new system is intended to be implemented swiftly. Notice the deadline  for applications is Dec 1st! The E.C. will then hire a General Manager to work with by the beginning of the new year. Know that the E.C. will be transparent as well as an open avenue through which your wonderful creative ideas for events, etc. can be supported and carried out!
Also, you might start  noticing some beautiful changes, not only in the physical space of our dance, but in some of the way we do things. These will occur over time as we start implementing the well thought out suggestions from our Sacred Space Committee (also born out of the Envisioning Event.) We’d like to know what you think about these changes and invite your feedback.

As we gather in giving thanks this week, let us acknowledge our fellow dancers who have enriched our lives through their service.

Many Thanks and Much Gratitude to both the Structure and Sacred Space Committees for all your work. We welcome the exciting opportunities you have presented us to deepen and grow together.

How very Blessed we are to be Alive…
In this Dance of Life!

Tracy Collins
Creative Director

Call for Candidates: Executive Committee, by 12-1-09

As was consensed at the November 15, 2009 Community Meeting, Embodydance will form a 7-member Executive Committee (EC), which is to include a General Manager (GM). These changes are the result of work done subsequent to the Embodydance Visioning meeting last summer, in which it became clear to the Community that a more organized structure is needed to support the facilitators in their creative work and to ensure that the business of Embodydance runs smoothly, efficiently and in a timely fashion.

The selection process for the EC will begin immediately. The EC will serve as a committed and consistent microcosm of the Embodydance Community, meeting monthly and operating in a fully transparent manner. The EC will be entrusted by the Community to set the agenda for Community Meetings and handle much of the business and decision-making necessary for the operation of Embodydance. Once the EC is formed, one of their first jobs will be to recruit and hire a General Manager to handle the basic business of Embodydance. The EC, including the new GM, will be responsible for the seamless running of Embodydance.

Embodydance Community members are invited to consider serving the Community by becoming an EC member. If you are interested in serving on the EC, please submit an Application Form (available on our website and at dances) to a Wave Facilitator by December 1. A multi-voting system will be used to select the EC.

Here are a few details about the EC. Full description follows below.

  • EC consists of up to 7 individuals: 1 Facilitator, 1 Coordinator, 1 member of Board of Directors, 1 General Manager, 3 Community members.
  • Applicants need to be aware of the need to be present for most EC meetings. A quorum of 4 people is necessary to hold a meeting and make decisions.
  • EC term length will be 1 year, with terms being renewable.
  • EC committee members receive compensation of one free dance for every meeting hour worked.
  • Being on the EC does not prevent one from applying for the GM position.

  • The EC will be entrusted by the Community to handle much of the business and decision-making necessary for the operation of Embodydance.
  • The EC will operate in a fully transparent manner, and will be open, to some extent, to the Community. It is acknowledged that there may be times or topics that require privacy. The EC is entrusted to establish a policy for the appropriate openness of meetings.
  • A summary report/minutes will be prepared after each EC meeting, to be posted on the Embodydance website within 5 days of the EC meeting, and to be presented at Community Meetings.
  • The EC will keep a documentation binder with all Agenda Proposal Forms and other documentation relative to EC activities, making that binder available at dances and Community Meetings.
  • The EC will draft a policy by which The Embodydance Community may review and reverse EC decisions if necessary.
  1. EC consists of up to 7 individuals that will meet monthly to set the agenda for Community Meetings, to conduct business, and to make decisions as authorized by the Community.
  2. Makeup of EC: 1 Facilitator, 1 Coordinator, 1 member of Board of Directors, 1 General Manager, 3 Community members
  3. A quorum of 4 is required for any decisions to be made by the EC.
  4. Two EC members will officially attend all Community Meetings.
  5. EC term length will be 1 year, with terms being renewable.
  6. EC will monitor and manage the GM position. EC is charged with fine-tuning the GM job description, conducting a search for and filling that position as soon as possible. This process is to be given the highest priority.
  7. Proposals of agenda items will be made to the EC in writing, on Agenda Proposal Forms. Agenda Proposal Forms will also be accepted via email.
  8. EC members may discuss and make decisions on proposed agenda items. EC may also decide, by consensus, with quorum, to send specific items to Community Meeting for discussion.
  9. EC will accept proposals from and contract with Embodydance individuals and groups regarding creative projects such as retreats, special dances, etc.
  10. EC may form sub-committees as needed.
  11. EC may authorize operating expenditures up to $3000 per six-month period and may approve budgets for revenue-generating special events up to $7000 per event.
  12. EC may approve contracts up to 12 months in duration.
  13. EC will monitor Embodydance finances, in cooperation with the Board of Directors and Treasurer.
  14. EC members will be compensated as follows: one free dance for each meeting hour attended. EC members who attend Community Meetings in official EC capacity (2 per meeting) will be compensated for that meeting as well. EC members who already dance free may collect payment instead ($10 per dance at present time) by requesting it from General Manager or Bookkeeper at the end of each month.

Selection Process: The EC selection process will begin immediately. EC candidates can volunteer or be nominated (forms available) and will be accepted for consideration until December 1. After that, multi-voting by the Community will be used to select all members of the EC except the General Manager, which will be selected by the EC after it is established.

If you are ready to take on these responsibilities in service to the Community,
you can find the nomination form here.

Sincerely,
Your Name
